The understanding of materiality and environmental poetics in relation to context is the focus of Project 1B, an esquisse. Students will divide into smaller groups (three to four) in their allocated tutorial groups and create a Learning Pod that will benefit the neighborhood by promoting and enhancing the learning environment in a suburban park. Students are to suggest the layout and construction inside a 3 x 6 x 3 m (height) area for educational reasons. Three Learning Pods with the themes of (1) Learning via Plants, (2) Learning through People, and (3) Learning through Play are required of each tutorial group (10–12 students). The needs of the site's users should be considered in the design.
