TASK
TASK
Phase 1.2
The task focuses on designing an urban intervention to improve, transform, or engage public spaces in the Merdeka 118 precinct, specifically between Jalan Petaling and Jalan Kampung Attap. The intervention should emphasize walkable, inclusive, and livable pathways that integrate with surrounding activities while fostering community identity and sustainability through nature-based solutions. The design must promote a sense of place, address environmental and social challenges, ensure clear wayfinding, and adhere to authorities' guidelines, ultimately enhancing public safety, accessibility, and overall user experience.
We were choosen to do site B, Kampung Attap.
Phase 1.1
The task requires conducting a townscape appraisal, a method of evaluating the visual and aesthetic qualities of a town or urban area by examining its character, identity, and distinctiveness. This involves analyzing physical features such as buildings, streets, landmarks, and public spaces, as well as their social and cultural relevance. The goal is to assess the area's strengths, weaknesses, and potential for improvement while preserving its unique character and fostering sustainable and livable environments. The study focuses on both macro and micro scales, analyzing the relationship between the site and the broader urban context, particularly Jalan Petaling and Jalan Kampung Attap, while also considering smaller immediate contexts. Students are expected to propose design solutions that enhance identity and place while addressing architectural, cultural, and environmental aspects. This process includes identifying significant features, engaging with local communities, and documenting analytical data for comprehensive evaluation and design development.
