PHASE 2

URBAN LEARNING CENTRE

TASK

TASK

The task focuses on developing a learning center in the Merdeka 118 Precinct by interpreting its role within the community and reflecting on issues and inspirations from previous phases. Students are required to address elements such as character, continuity, and enclosure while ensuring public realm quality, ease of movement, legibility, adaptability, and diversity in the urban context. This phase emphasizes architectural exploration through geometric experimentation with 1:100 models using techniques like layering, subtraction, and overlapping. To inform their design, we must analyze two precedent studies—one from an international context and one from tropical cities—covering aspects such as reimagining learning in urban settings, tropical architecture, and block context. These studies aim to foster an understanding of urban context, the role of learning centers in heritage areas as community hubs, and the incorporation of tropical architectural elements like courtyards, interstitial spaces, and passive design strategies that enhance natural ventilation and sun shading, all while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
